Part 7: Reordered Priorities
Some of us aren’t bound by chains of fear or shame — we’re bound by the weight of misaligned priorities. We keep saying “yes” to everything and everyone, but deep down, we know our soul is starving. Our schedules are full, but our spirits are running on empty. We’ve placed work, people, and even ministry above the God who gave us breath.
The truth is, misplaced priorities will drain you just as much as hidden wounds. Jesus said in Matthew 6:33 (NLT), “Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.” That means breakthrough doesn’t come by grinding harder, stacking up achievements, or being everything to everyone. It comes by putting God first.
When Priorities Get Out of Order
It happens quietly. A good thing becomes the main thing. The urgent keeps crowding out the important. Before long, you’re tired, irritable, and wondering why you feel far from God even though you’re still “busy for Him.” But let’s be real: God never asked us to burn out for Him — He asked us to walk with Him.
The Freedom of Reordering
Freedom starts when we shift what sits at the top of our lives. When God is first, everything else falls into place. When He isn’t, everything else falls apart. This doesn’t mean neglecting your responsibilities — it means refusing to put them above the One who sustains you in the first place.
Reordering your priorities looks like setting aside time for prayer even when the inbox is full. It’s choosing obedience to God’s Word even when culture says otherwise. It’s learning to rest in Him instead of pushing yourself past exhaustion. Reordering isn’t about losing — it’s about gaining the peace, balance, and clarity that only come when life is aligned with God’s design.
God Wants Your First, Not Your Leftovers
God doesn’t need our perfection, but He does desire our devotion. Proverbs 3:9–10 (NLT) says, “Honor the Lord with your wealth and with the best part of everything you produce. Then he will fill your barns with grain, and your vats will overflow with good wine.” That principle goes beyond finances. He wants our best time, our best focus, our best worship — not what’s left over after everything else drains us.
When our priorities shift, the chains of performance, people-pleasing, and burnout break off. We’re no longer bound to live for approval or accomplishments. We’re free to live in step with the Spirit.
Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father,
I confess that I’ve often put other things above You. I’ve let my schedule, my responsibilities, and even my own desires take first place in my heart. But today I want to reorder my life. Help me to seek You first in all things. Teach me how to honor You with my time, my focus, and my devotion. Break the chains of distraction and misplaced priorities so I can walk in the freedom You promised. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
